Manual

Short on purpose. Bakspace is meant to be understood in an afternoon.

  • Getting started: Install, look round the example, start a project of your own.
  • Writing: The page, the slash menu, formatting, comments, footnotes and the right-click menu.
  • Organising: The binder, folders as lists, text or cards, and the labels and statuses that sort them.
  • Characters and places: Research notes that know where they appear in the manuscript.
  • Spelling and readability: Spelling suggestions, a dictionary for the project, and readability help when you want it.
  • Snapshots and history: Kept versions of every document. Compare, restore, carry on.
  • Where your words live: A project is a folder of plain files. Here is what is in it.
  • On your other computers: Put the folder in iCloud Drive or Dropbox and write on more than one Mac.
  • Export: The manuscript as one file: Word, EPUB, PDF or Markdown, or the whole folder.
  • Settings: What each section of Settings changes, for the project and for Bakspace.
  • Your licence: The trial, buying, your key, your devices, and what happens if you never buy.
  • Privacy and updates: What Bakspace sends, the switches that stop it, and how updates arrive.
  • Keyboard shortcuts: Every shortcut in Bakspace, for Mac and for Windows and Linux.
  • Troubleshooting: Messages you might see, what they mean, and what to do.
