Snapshots and history

Every version of every document is kept. Compare, restore, carry on.

Snapshots

A snapshot is a copy of a document as it was at a moment. Bakspace takes one on its own the first time you edit a document in a session, so there is always a "how it was this morning" to go back to. Take one yourself with Cmd Shift S whenever you are about to try something, and give it a name if you like.

Snapshots live in the project folder under history/ and travel with it.

History

Cmd Alt H opens the history panel for the selected document. Each snapshot shows its time and label. Choose one to see the differences against what is on the page now, side by side, with changes marked.

Restore replaces the page with the snapshot. The version you were looking at is snapshotted first, so restoring is never a one-way door.

Project snapshots

Under Project settings > Snapshots you can snapshot the whole project at once, which is useful before a big restructure. Restoring one puts every document back as it was; nothing since then is thrown away, because the current state is snapshotted first.
