Cloud and backups

Optional. A project is local or cloud, never both, and backups are a click.

Signing in

Cloud is off until you sign in. Enter your email on the Welcome screen or under Settings > Account; a link arrives by email and signing in is clicking it. There is no password.

Cloud sync and backups are a subscription, separate from the one-off licence. Reading what is already in the cloud never needs an active subscription.

Backing up

With a local project open, File > Back up to cloud sends a copy. Each backup is complete and independent: the documents, the binder, the settings and every snapshot. The Welcome screen lists backups, and Restore turns one into a new local project next to the original.

Moving a project to the cloud

File > Move project turns a local project into a cloud project, or the reverse. A cloud project opens from any machine you are signed in on, and the copy on disk is left as a read-only folder so nothing is lost if you change your mind.

A project is local or cloud, never both. That is deliberate: two writable copies of the same manuscript is how chapters go missing.

When the session ends

If your sign-in expires while you are writing, the project goes read-only with a banner asking you to sign in again. Your unsaved edits stay on the page, and saving picks up where it left off once you are back in.

Deleting and exporting

Everything is self-serve under Settings > Account: delete a cloud project, delete a backup, download every byte of your account as a zip, or delete the account. See the privacy policy for what is held.
